In Belarus, on January 15, an important stage of the election campaign ends - the nomination of candidates for deputies. A week before this date, the chairmen of district election commissions at a briefing in the Minsk City Executive Committee told how the collection of signatures is going on in Minsk using the example of their districts and who is nominated, BELTA correspondent reports.
The Chairman of District Election Commission No. 103, Igor Timashishin, informed that ten initiative groups have been registered: three for nominating candidates for the House of Representatives, seven for nominating candidates for the Minsk City Council. In the district, seven men and three women are nominated by collecting signatures. “The average age of candidates is 46 years. Of these, eight are party members, two are non-party,” explained Igor Timashishin.
One initiative group was denied registration because there was a discrepancy between the data in the documents on the candidacy of one of the group’s representatives.
The Chairman of District Election Commission No. 110, Svetlana Yurenya, spoke about the progress of the election campaign in the districts that cover part of the Partizansky and Pervomaisky districts.
“We have registered two initiative groups in support of candidates for deputies of the House of Representatives. A man and a woman, representatives of the education sector, are nominated,” said Svetlana Yurenya. “As for the elections to the Minsk City Council, in each of the districts - Volgograd No. 58, Traktorozavodskaya No. 59, Zakharovsky No. 60 - three initiative groups are registered. According to the Chairman of the Minsk City Election Commission, Alexander Shchekovich, a total of 20 districts have been formed in Minsk for the election of deputies to the House of Representatives and 60 districts for the election of deputies to the Minsk City Council. Nomination of candidates takes place in three ways: by registering an initiative group to collect signatures, through holding meetings of labor collectives, and by decision of the leadership of political parties.
50 initiative groups have been registered for nominating candidates for deputies of the House of Representatives and 132 for nominating candidates for deputies of the Minsk City Council.
